Quality the Key Element
(From roving reporter 'Copy Boy' Allardice)
Quality was the key to success at Binningup, with quantity paling into insignificance:
- A quality field
- Quality golf
- Quality weather
- Quality catering
- Quality comradeship
- Unveiling of the club’s latest club house annex . . . . the Quality Northern Command Centre!
. . . . and the list goes on.

Travel to the clubhouse was Quality in itself. Macca and Scobes zipped down the Lord Forrest in the 8 year-old vivacious vehicle which belied its 107,000 kms. Meanwhile, the President-elect enthused in his role of acting President by warming the Presidential seat perched high and mighty alongside the Master Blaster in the Presidential van. (The President-elect hinted that a step ladder would be a bonus next time he climbed into such an illustrious position.)
Friday saw a leisurely start to the day with an uncluttered kitchen, an improved ratio of persons per bathroom, and no one wondering if the Phantom was ever going to rise.

Macca attack, Binningup 6th par 3 |
The home shirts – 2 old and dull and 2 bright and new – were donned and the field set off to battle the flies which threatened to cause chaos until the breeze helped dissipate the little buggers. The double circumnavigation of the “Home Course” was challenging, especially the second nine as we followed 2 groups of 5 who joined together on the 18th to hit off en masse . . . . the Handicapper crying “Where were the anti-boat people 40 years ago?” as the group of 10 were all Poms.
Quality again came to the fore as Nanna Naps were enjoyed by all, with the Master Blaster noting the pleasure of listening to Scobes’ crosscut saw buzzing not once but twice a day. Quality stuff indeed.

Quality cards . . . . |
. . . . or not quality cards |
Saturday was the Quality event sponsored by the Coke/Scoble stable, and the Quality golf about to unravel was spectacular. Macca the Pace Cracker was unbelievably consistent, unbelievably quiet and pulled off four 4-pointers in his round. Master Blaster joined the party with birdies (for four points) on two of the par 3’s.
Sunday A 7.15 a.m. hit off saw a top Quality morning spoilt only by the golf. Top End Tom and Scobes tried desperately to pull off a Quality win only to see them stumble at critical points. Macca and Ronzo were obviously suffering burnout from the previous day’s battle but enjoyed the Quality of the fairways and greens.
